“Dr. Wecht determined the gestation period of the infant to be thirty-five (35) weeks.”
I’m fascinated by the repetitious language of the police report. “The race, sex and time of the infant’s death remain undetermined at this time. The remains will be examined … at a time yet to be determined.”
Wow, as a woman in her 30s and currently at 36 weeks, I find this story more than disturbing… I can’t help but let my imagination run wild about the details.
Gah.
Like Faulkner’s story
except this time, a woman’s.

1950s-style suitcase. The woman would’ve been in her thirties – presuming she’s the mother, and not (say) the grandmother. Sad.
Helluva thing to find while going through your mother’s effects….
