Landscape, with Narrow Passage

You come to the gate again with your
beasts of burden, and the only way
you can pass is by tossing
excess to the stars.

Each tree holds a bobbin of ice
or a fuse detonated by birds—

Slip one shoulder in first and then
the other. There are times
it is possible to lead
with the heart.
